good books doing good thingsā„¢

This mantra of ours brings together three elements, & it's key to seeing why we’re different:

Here's a little about the good things we're supporting, and how you can help too:

Kids' literacy & the joys of reading- Let's Read

A wonderful initiative of the Centre for Community Child Health, Let's Read is being implemented across Australia, including in Indigenous communities, in partnership with The Smith Family. Click here to read The Smith Family's announcement of its partnership with Pantera Press.

Let's Read encourages parents to have fun reading with their pre-school kids, to help them develop a love of books & the ability to name letters & play with the sounds of words. These are some of the building blocks that will help children learn to read & write when they get to school. Research has shown that reading with even the youngest children is an important activity to develop a child's future literacy skills. Poor literacy skills are associated with lower education, earnings, health & social outcomes. Teaching kids to read is a vital step towards breaking the cycle of disadvantage.

Pantera Press is aiming to help fund two new Let's Read programs in every state in Australia. Let's Read helps pre-school kids (0-5 years old) from socially & economically disadvantaged families in regional, rural, remote & metro communities, including some Indigenous communities. So far, three have been opened: one in South Australia, one in rural NSW and one in Western Sydney, in a largely Indigenous community.

As part of our partnership, The Smith Family auctioned 5 sets of beautifully framed & personally signed prints of the extraordinary original artwork Bill Leak, renowned artist & Australia's leading political cartoonist, created for the cover of Simon Benson's book BETRAYAL, plus a personally signed  copy of BETRAYAL by author Simon Benson (all provided by Pantera Press).
