Good books doing really good things!

This December, the Pantera Press team have been busy little elves in Santa’s North Pole Shore, working hard to make a difference in the lives of many Australians.

The holiday season is a time for generosity of spirit and to spend with loved ones. But there are Australians who, this Christmas, are without families, without homes, or have found themselves in situations of disadvantage.

For Christmas, Pantera Press have partnered with Mission Australia, The Footpath Library, Arterie – Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, and a number of local youth and community centres to bring 11,000 books ($280,000) to those in need.

Pantera Press are an organisation built with social purpose. The core focus of our company and foundation is to invest in the next generation of readers and writers. Pantera Press is one of the few publishing houses that welcomes (and actively seeks) new, previously unpublished authors – Australian authors with international, best-selling potential who write great stories. Additionally, through our Good Books Doing Good Things philosophy as well as the Pantera Press Foundation, we donate a percentage of revenue to organisations and programs that promote literacy and encourage the joy of reading.

It is with great delight that this year we have partnered with such incredible organisations to hopefully make a significant difference, especially over the Christmas period which can be a tough time for many.

A book is a wonderful gift, a present filled with friendship, new worlds, hope, and escape… not to mention great storytelling! We’ve included books from great Australian storytellers like Sulari Gentill, Robin Baker, Melanie Casey, J.M. Donellan, B. Michael Radburn, Wanda Wiltshire, Lynette Noni, John M. Green and Graham Potts. These books traverse genres so they’ll suit all tastes; young adult, crime, thriller, spy, political, fantasy, romance, and many more.

Partnering with 25 Mission Australia centres around Australia, Pantera Press have donated between 100-1000 books to each centre, to be given out as Christmas gifts. Dedicated Pantera Press Libraries, comprising 3,200 books, have also been sent to 4 key Mission Australia centres for people to take or borrow as they wish. Mission Australia is a non-denominational Christian community service organisation that has been helping people to regain their independence for over 155 years.

Pantera Press have also donated boxes of 18 key book titles to The Footpath Library. The Footpath Library gives away free (mostly new) books to homeless people through libraries they have installed in shelters and refuges in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth. They also operate several mobile services, taking “food for the mind” directly to the streets.

Sarah Garnett, CEO of The Footpath Library notes, “For our clients, books are an opportunity to escape into a great story, learn something new, or simply escape from an often miserable day to day reality.”

Pantera Press look forward to pursuing an ongoing relationship with The Footpath Library and have committed to donating a quantity of all appropriate future book titles each year.
