Pantera Press has acquired world rights to Let Me Know When We Get There by author and journalist Amal Awad, through Tara Wynne at Curtis Brown.

Let Me Know When We Get There is a story about the gravity of love, connection and commitment, and how the choices we make can affect our lives forever.

Inseparable since their pre-school years, neighbours Zeina, Noor and Ray forged a friendship that saw them through childhood, their university years and the initial throes of true independence as they moved out of home. But as they reach their late 30s, each finds themselves at a crossroads.

‘When I wrote The Things We See in the Light, I knew that I was deep-diving into places that had always seemed too hidden to reach. Somehow I reached them, but I wasn’t sure what was left to explore when I was done. A pandemic put the brakes on so many experiences, yet it’s in that quiet and solitude that I found myself returning to a group of characters I met in my imagination many years ago. Let Me Know When We Get There is a story about deeply-held connections, of bonds that have been forged over many years, but which have been threatened overnight. I am excited to be exploring relationships in adulthood from a fresh perspective, and the different ways we feel and express love. I’m also grateful to be working with the team at Pantera Press again; I had a wonderful experience working with them on my previous novel,’ said Amal Awad.

‘Amal’s books are rich, warm, and nuanced, exploring the many ways that we connect with each other, and how those connections come to define us and shape our lives. I learn something new about myself every time I read Amal,’ said Pantera Press Editorial Director Kate Cuthbert.

Amal Awad is a journalist, screenwriter and the author of Courting Samira, This Is How You Get Better and The Things We See in the Light. She has also written non-fiction books including The Incidental Muslim and Beyond the Veiled Clichés: The Real Lives of Arab Women and Fridays with My Folks: Stories on Ageing, Illness and Life. As a journalist, Amal has contributed to Elle, Frankie, The Guardian, Daily Life, Meanjin and more.

Let Me Know When We Get There will be released in September 2023.
