ALL THE TEARS IN CHINA: From the Ned Kelly Award-Winning writer Sulari Gentill

Sulari Gentill, the award-winning author The Rowland Sinclair Mysteries will release her 9th book from the much-loved Australian series, All the Tears in China, in February 2019. This year, Gentill was also the recipient of the Ned Kelly Best Crime Book, winning for her literary thriller, Crossing the Lines.

Born in Sri Lanka, Gentill learned to speak English in Zambia, grew up in Brisbane and now lives in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains of NSW with her historian husband and two children, where she grows French black truffles and writes.

“The thing I love most about writing an ongoing crime series like the Rowland Sinclair Mysteries is the opportunity and the time to really get to know Rowland himself. It’s almost like a natural friendship, deepening over time, and organic,” says Gentill.

“He surprises me often, and though he lives in the 1930s, there are so many social and political parallels with today that we seem to be facing the same fight. With each book I learn something more about Rowland, his life and his passions, the values or people for whom he is willing to stand.  And while each mystery is a complete and discrete episode, each book is also an individual tile in the mosaic of his life, and writing it is like an adventure with old and true friends.”

All the Tears in China sees the much-loved Rowland Sinclair arriving in Shanghai from Sydney to represent his brother at international wool negotiations. He is under strict instructions to commit to nothing, but a brutal murder makes that impossible. As suspicion falls on him, Rowland enters a desperate bid to find answers in a city as glamorous as it is dangerous, where tai-pans and tycoons rule, and politics and vice are entwined with commerce.

All the Tears in China throws a classic murder mystery into a glitzy, glamorous, tawdry and dangerous world, entrancing both new and old readers alike.
