Pantera Press acquires You Are More Than What You Eat by Dr Emma Beckett

Pantera Press has acquired world rights for the first book from food and nutrition scientist, Dr. Emma Beckett; You Are More That What You Eat is a fun and informative manual/manifesto designed to put people back at the heart of nutrition advice.

Self-dubbed the ‘Ms Frizzle of the Food World,’ Dr. Beckett is an established food and nutrition scientist with additional qualifications in biomedical science, epidemiology and more. She is known for her media engagement with ABC, BBC, The Conversation and Broadsheet, and works in both the private and academic sectors. She has dedicated her career to sharing no-nonsense nutrition information on her social media, with a particular interest in considering food and nutrition science as in ways that are practical and empowering.

She expressed her excitement at the opportunity to further spread her message and engage new readers in a crucial conversation about how we power our bodies. ‘I got to spend my career figuring out the science of eating, and it’s hard and I’m still not perfect, but that’s ok!’ she says. ‘There’s so much I wish more people knew about food and nutrition science so that they could make better choices for themselves and stress less, and I’m excited to be able to write it all down for you!’

Pantera Press’ Editorial Director, Kate Cuthbert, also shares in this excitement to reframe conversations around good. ‘I first stumbled across Emma’s twitter feed, where she used her amazing collection of food-themed dresses and earrings to start honest, evidence-backed conversations around food and eating,’ she says. ‘It’s a true pleasure and honour to take Emma’s message of complexity and care into her debut book. I know this is a book that can change lives for the better – and maybe (hopefully!) inspire more of us to dress for our passions!’

Part manual, part memoir, part manifesto, You Are More Than What You Eat puts the person back at the heart of nutrition. Informed by a scientific evidence base, this book presents the perfect antidote to misinformation, and the weight loss industry. This book will show readers how and why food choices, eating, and biology are not as simple as diet cultures suggests, how to embrace the complexity of their body and their life, empowering them to improve their relationships with food.
