We’re Hiring: A Publicist or Senior Publicist


Terms: Full-time

Reports to: Head of Publicity and Communications

Location: Sydney

Salary package range: $70,000– $85,000 p.a. inclusive of superannuation, depending on experience

Leading independent publisher, Pantera Press, seeks a Publicist or Senior Publicist with several years’ experience and a proven track record in publicity (preferably within an Australian publishing house, the wider books industry, or a related arts communications role). This role will work across fiction, non-fiction and illustrated titles, including super-lead titles, as part of a small and dynamic team to achieve effective, high-impact publicity campaigns. Reporting to the Head of Publicity and Communications, this position will also work closely with the Head of Marketing to generate ideas and implement strategies to strengthen Pantera Press brand awareness. There will be opportunities for professional development in communications strategy.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

  • Develop and implement publicity campaigns encompassing media coverage and events for monthly new release titles across genres, working closely with marketing, publishing and sales departments, reporting to the Head of Publicity
  • Provide ongoing long-tail publicity support for new release authors, as well as backlist authors and titles
  • Create unique, tailored pitches for specific media to secure timely media coverage
  • Write effective and persuasive copy for publicity materials including press releases, newsletters, pitches, sales and marketing materials
  • Work proactively and autonomously to identify trends and secure media and awareness opportunities for the brand(s) and authors
  • Closely manage long-lead pitches and projects to meet varying deadlines
  • Plan, book and organise author tours and events with booksellers and festival programmers, to budget
  • Coordinate advance reading copies and new release publicity mail outs
  • Maintain strong relationships with media, booksellers and festival programmers
  • Accompany authors on tours, to events and media appearances
  • Play an active role in acquisitions meetings
  • Support Head of Publicity in achieving increased brand awareness for both Pantera Press and the Pantera Press Foundation
  • Support Head Of Marketing with content across social channels as required

 

CRITERIA

  • Several years’ experience working as a publicist, ideally in a trade publishing house
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing effective publicity campaigns
  • Demonstrated understanding of author care, relationship management and effective communication skills
  • Established relationships with members of the media, booksellers and event programmers
  • Ability to work proactively and autonomously, as well as prioritise workload across titles
  • A keen interest in furthering communications strategy
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
